Better late than never for Mass Effect

I’m not a fan of RPG games (except Fable) or even sci-fi games but Mass Effect really has impressed me.

Mass Effect was the very first game that I owned on the xbox, I got it free when I purchased my first Xbox 360 back in early 2008 or was it 2007? I had only played it the once and found myself quickly bored and not really impressed with the graphics so it sat gathering dust until now.

My girlfriend bought me Mass Effect 2 that she found for a fiver recently but her son warned me not play it until I completed the first game as the story is interlinked. I have been putting off playing the two games for a while now as I always remembered the first Mass Effect to be boring but ever since I have seen nothing but positive reviews and everyone mentioning how great a game it was, did I miss something?

Hung-over on Saturday I just wanted something to chill out to, Battlefield Bad Company 2 isn’t the best game to play when the head is banging and it feels like I have been trampled on. So I decided to try my chances at playing Mass Effect again and I’m really glad I did. I found myself sitting from 11am Saturday morning until 6am Sunday morning playing it though I don’t even think I have gotten far into the story just yet, its bloody massive!

I think the reason why I didn’t like it the first time round I played it was because I played it on those really old 22” telly’s and I wasn’t hung-over at the time.

Even though Mass Effect was released back in 2007 it’s still a lot better than most new releases we see today. The graphics and attention to detail are simply amazing, the character handling is really good and the story line is just excellent. It did take me a good few hours to figure out all the controls, the upgrades etc but that’s all part of the fun in playing a game like this.

Here is a video of the beginning of the game to give you an example of how well it looks:

I’m kicking myself that it’s taken me 3 years to discover how good this game is but as the saying goes, better late than never. I can’t wait to get this finished so I can start playing Mass Effect 2 and thankfully Mass Effect 3 isn’t due out until March 2012 so that will give me some time.

If you have never played this then I highly recommend it, especially for the sci-fi or RPG fans. You can but it for Xbox 360 on Amazon.co.uk for £10 and on Amazon.com for $19.54 (affiliate links).

I played Mass Effect for few days. First impression was good but after discovering few planets I was bored. Maybe someday will try it again.

I was the same but being hungover I decided to stick it out. I’m enjoying the storyline at the moment and now that I am closer to finishing its getting more interesting.

I dont think its the type of game that you can sit and play for an hour, for me anyway. This is an all day game in my opinion.
