If you didn’t know already the Playstation Network is scheduled for a maintenance window today and it’s going to be a long one.
PlayStation Network will be offline for routine scheduled maintenance on 16:00 on Thursday 17 November until 02:00 GMT on Friday November 2011.
During the maintenance, you will be unable to access the following services:
- PlayStation Store on PS3 and PSP.
- PlayStation Network Account Management.
- PlayStation Network Account Registration.
In addition, you will not be able to sign in to PlayStation Network from us.playstation.com. However, some users may be able to play online during the maintenance.
During this maintenance, you can continue to collect in-game Trophies and these will be updated on your profile once PlayStation Network is back up and running.
10 hours downtime (14 for U.S) is a very long maintenance window. I’ve learned a thing or two about maintenance windows from working at two Data Centres and this one is pretty major to the point that I’m thinking they are doing an overhaul on something.
At the time of writing this there is no mention as is what is being done during the PSN maintenance and I’m not sure if it’s their normal policy to release that information. If they normally do provide maintenance specifics then would I suspect this could be security related but that’s just speculation on my part.
A lot of people are asking if they will be able to sign into PSN to play online games. Although the say some users may be able to play the trick is to be signed into PSN before the maintenance begins.
