Dead Rising 2 Gameplay

| October 9, 2010 | 0 Comments

I’m not a big fan of Zombie games but after seeing a really funny TV advert for Dead Rising 2 I thought I would give this one a try and I have to admit it’s a great game. The variety of weapons at hand and the combining of weapons to make something even more powerful will keep you glued to the game for hours.

Without giving too much away you simply play as Chuck Green, a former Motocross Champion, with a goal of keeping your daughter alive and surviving against an outbreak of Zombies. There are a number of different directions you take with this game, play the story line, kill as many zombies as possible, go shopping or play mini games in various locations.

Playing the story line for Dead Rising 2

You have 72 hours to complete the story line of Dead Rising 2 and solve the mystery behind the outbreak of the Zombies. There are multiple endings, 6 official and 7 with extended overtime. You can read more about the endings here *warning spoilers*

If you do play the story line you need a strategy on how you’ll go about solving each case. What I advise on is not to get caught up killing zombies as you can do this in a new game without following the story line.

Watch your time very carefully as each case has a time limit so if you are at one side of the map dressing up in women clothes you may discover that you have less than a minute to make it to the other side of the map.

Save your games wisely! There are save points (public toilets) dotted around the map so save your game regularly but be very careful, if you save your game at a point where time is running out on a case you may end up having to restart the story line (this has happened to me twice).

If you simply want to kill Zombies

There is no limit to how you can kill Zombies in this game. Almost every object in the game and can be picked up and used as a weapon. As you progress through the story line you’ll discover combo cards, these allow you to merge two objects together to make a powerful weapon such as a wheel chair and a car battery.

There are also a number of vehicles in the game that will allow you to kill the most Zombies in the shortest period of time but you’ll need the keys to open the vehicles.

Co-op game play

Dead Rising 2 has co-op game play so a friend can join in causing as mayhem as possible in the game. I have yet to try co-op.

Multi-player game play

The multi-player game play is set as a TV reality show called “Terror Is Reality” with 4 contestants playing inside an arena full of zombies. Various weapons and vehicles are used by players to kill Zombies and gain the most point.

Gripes with Dead Rising 2

The only gripe I have with this game is the amount of loading screens that it takes. Moving from one location to another requires a load screen which does become really annoying when playing the story line as pointed out in this Xbox forum thread.

Apart from the loading screens I have nothing negative to say about this game, the story line is great, the Zombie killing is really funny and I’ve yet to experience any glitches.
